PAW Parkinsons Awareness Walk PAW

The Second Annual Ted Kroll Memorial Parkinsons Awareness Walk (PAW), held on the campus of The Presbyterian Homes on Saturday, September 11, was blessed for the second year in a row with beautiful weather.  It was a gorgeous day for an event like this dual-purpose walk.  PAW is intended to raise public awareness of Parkinsons disease while raising money to continue the renovation of the Parkinsons wing at the Home.  This wing, which opened in 2001, is set up to meet the special needs of patients with Parkinsons and other movement impairments.

The ideal weather, however, was just one of many blessings on the day of this walk.  PAW was also blessed with so many beautiful people.  Support was everywhere, coming from families, friends, churches, and volunteer college students from Hamilton and Utica Colleges.  It was a joy to behold.  For inspiration there was Team Jerry and the Faith Weavers from the Ilion Baptist Church.  If you were there that day, then you had to be aware of Jerrys Team, wearing the yellow tee shirts with Team Jerry printed on the back.  This team was walking for the father of Head Nurse, Lucy Viti.  His name just happens to be Jerry and he has Parkinsons.  It was no surprise when, at the end of the walk, Team Jerry was announced as the first place winner for bringing in the most money in the team division. The second prize in the team division went to the Faith Weavers from the Ilion Baptist Church.

Participation in the event by CNYPSG members and their families was very much in evidence.  Pat Moylan figured we were about 40 strong. Two of our families were recognized with third place awards - the Petrie family and the McCaffrey family.  Also the M & Ms were honorees and Grand Marshals for the 2004 Walk.

And who are the M & Ms?  Why they are the Moylans and the McCaffreys who are all officers of CNYPSG, Inc.  Their M & M Road Show is one of the accomplishments that they were being honored for.  This foursome goes out and talks about Parkinsons to any organization or group who requests it.  They have also been very actively involved with the planning of the new Parkinsons wing at the Home.

At the conclusion of the Walk prizes were awarded and then there was a special presentation for the Grand Marshals in the Center Court where a plaque honoring the McCaffreys and Moylans was unveiled.  The plaque is now hanging in the entrance to the Parkinson wing on the Wall of Honor right next to the Ted Kroll plaque from last year.

THANKYOU/THANKYOU/THANKYOU!!!!

THANKYOU/THANKYOU/THANKYOU!!!!

The Moylans and McCaffreys would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those in charge at the Presbyterian Homes for Central New York for this honor.  All that we do for Parkinsons both at the Home and in the community has been a pleasure for us all.  Our lives have taken on new purpose and a new direction since PD came into our universe.  Being in a position where we can help someone else is a wonderful thing.  We are so grateful for this honor.

Thanks to CNYPSG for the lovely flowers that were delivered to my house a couple of days prior to my initial surgery.  I was only in the hospital for three days, and they were just as pretty when I got home. Thank you for your cards, letters, e-mails and phone calls, and special thanks for all of the prayers.  I am sure they are what have brought me this far.

                                    With love,

                                            Marge M.

To CNYPSG members,

Please accept my sincere thanks for choosing me as the recipient of the Walter H. Dickson Caregiver award this year. It is my pleasure to be a part of a caring group like the CNYPSG group.

                        Gratefully,

                                    Thea Matterese

M&M Shows & Health Fairs

The Moylans and the McCaffreys (the M&Ms) were pleased to have the opportunity to give their presentation to the Activity Association

Directors on July 13th at the Presbyterian Home of Central New York. We had a very attentive audience and we hope they now have a better understanding of Parkinson's disease. In November, the M&Ms expect to be in Canajoharie to tell them about PD and the CNYPSG.

We have been invited to participate in a Health Fair at Ava Dorfman Senior Center in Rome on November 5th. This is another great way to make the presence of our support group known.
